How To: Advocating for Your Health
Wednesday, July 15 | 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Join MSUM Counseling staff for a virtual session to learn more about advocating for your health. Zoom details on DragonCentral.
Navigating the complex systems to access mental health or physical health care providers can be confusing and just plain frustrating. Our goal is to provide information, talking points, and examples to empower you to advocate for yourself so that your mental and physical health needs are met. The session will provide an overview to help students think about what to look for in health care providers, how to advocate for yourself (ideas, examples, talking points), and information on navigating health care systems. Students will also be able to ask questions of the MSUM Counseling Center staff and Case Manager.
We acknowledge that the health care system has long neglected or dismissed Black, Indigenous, People of Color, LGBTQIA+, and people who identify as women. The systemic racism within health care is also well documented. The session will be presented by MSUM Counseling staff and Case Manager who acknowledge these systemic challenges in health care.
Note: This session will be recorded and shared for those who can’t attend the live virtual event.
