Welcome to the #DragonFamily: Joan Gehrig

Meet one of MSUM’s new general maintenance workers, Joan Gehrig. In her position with building services on campus, Joan looks forward to keeping a safe and clean environment for faculty, students, visitors, guests and staff. She will primarily work in Nemzek by helping take care of MSUM’s Fieldhouse Court to ensure that the space is always ready for its next event.

Start Date: April 20, 2020

Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: While researching the position offered at MSUM, I saw that I would have the opportunity to work independently but also with a team. Vince Lombardi, once said, “Individual commitment to a group effort — that’s what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.”

Q: What is one thing that surprised you about MSUM?
A: I did not know that MSUM had roots going back almost 170 years in the community!

Q: What energizes you at work?
A: Having been a self-employed small-business owner I understand the long hours, dedication and commitment one must have to be successful. Good things come from hard work. I enjoy being physically active and the more I can get done in a day, the happier I am!

Q: Where is your favorite place to eat in Fargo-Moorhead?
A:  One of my favorite restaurants in the area is Cork & Cleaver. They have wonderful food, great service, and the space is always clean and comfortable!

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
A: Someday I would like to visit Thailand and have a working vacation at one of the elephant sanctuaries there! I am passionate about caring for animals that are under great pressure and about making a positive change. Until this dream becomes a reality, I will continue to support the people and elephants of Thailand in different ways!

Welcome to MSUM, Joan. We’re glad you joined the #DragonFamily.
