Society of Physics Students (SPS) Awards

The MSUM Society of Physics Students has earned the “Outstanding Chapter” designation from the national office.  This is the highest level of distinction and is only given to the top SPS chapters.  This marks over a decade of receiving national recognition every year for the activities the MSUM Society of Physics Students conducts.  From the Halloween Open House to the Annual SPS Demo show and numerous outreach activities the MSUM students are sharing STEM with students of all ages.  The national office recognizes that the combined efforts of student members support the department, further student development and strength the community and is a sign of a thriving departmental culture.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy inducted two Society of Physics members into ΣΠΣ (Sigma Pi Sigma), the National Physics Honor Society. Sigma Pi Sigma chapters are restricted to colleges and universities of recognized standing that offer a strong physics major. Students elected to membership must attain high standards of general scholarship and outstanding achievement in physics that include research, outreach and service. The two new members are Erick Quintana and Ethan Rasset.  The induction ceremony is being postponed ’til the Fall.
