Meet MSUM’s new assistant director of recreation and competitive sports Matt Melchior. He is looking forward to working with the students through intramural sports and so much more around the Wellness Center!

Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: The atmosphere of MSUM. It’s very friendly and feels likes home. I was also excited to get into the college atmosphere as well.
Q: What energizes you at work?
A: The atmosphere of not only the staff that you work with, but also seeing some of the programs that you put into place and seeing how successful they can be. If you put a lot of work into a tournament or an event and see how many people are having fun and enjoying themselves, that’s really what helps motivate you.
Q: Where is your favorite place to eat in Fargo-Moorhead?
A: There is a new place that just opened up called Plaza Azteca. They have the best guacamole and their food is just really good!
Q: What are your favorite sports to watch?
A: I am a huge Minnesota sports fan! I enjoy watching any Minnesota sports team, especially the Vikings. Other than that, I really enjoy watching lacrosse.
Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
A: I’ve always wanted to go to New Zealand. Just to do some backpacking. I like the outdoors and skiing and snowboarding. You just have to be there the right time of the year for that, but that is a place I would go.
