Apply for the 2020 NEW Leadership Development Institute by March 16
Do you know a woman who cares deeply about serving her community and deserves the opportunity to have her leadership interest recognized, mentored, and inspired? Applications will be accepted until March 16 for the 2020 NEW Leadership Development Institute, to be held May 27-31 at MSUM. This intensive five-day residential program is designed to provide leadership training, inspiration, and support for women who do not have extensive leadership experience. There is particular emphasis on recruiting women from groups that have been underrepresented voices in the political process.
Participants attend workshops on:
- public speaking
- conflict resolution
- public policy advocacy
- working with the traditional and new media
- running for office
- building community partnerships
Participants meet with over forty women leaders, including:
- state and local elected officials
- leaders in tribal government
- community activists
- nonprofit leaders
We seek applicants with interest in politics, public service, or community service who desire to create positive change in their communities. Approximately 40 college and community women will be accepted. All participants and some women leaders reside on campus throughout the institute, extending learning beyond the formal daytime sessions.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, there is no cost to participate. Participants have the option of registering for a three-credit undergraduate course in Women’s Studies, Sociology, or Social Work. Those who choose to register for course credit will have to pay course registration expenses.
