Welcome to the #DragonFamily: Kevin Pallas
Meet MSUM’s new director of Public Safety, Kevin Pallas. He is looking forward to working with students in and out of the Public Safety department!
Start date: Jan. 8, 2020
Q: What drew you to MSUM
A: I was nearing the end of my law enforcement career with Fargo Police and thought this would be a good option and I had heard a lot of great things. I visited with the past director and he spoke highly of the position and the university. It was a mix of wanting to continue community service, public service in an avenue very similar to policing, safety and community engagement, and that’s what brought me here.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
A: If I could ask for one superpower, I would want to heal the sick. We have so much illness and so many diseases within our world. To be able to bring back people who are struggling or who are sick and ill would be a great superpower.
Q: What energizes you outside of work?
A: My family. My wife and I have been married for a little over 37 years. We dated in high school and married a year out of high school. She is everything to me. She energizes me along with my extended family and friends.
Q: How do you prefer to start your workday?
A: I get up and say “I think today is going to be good.” We decide that early on in our day, whether it’s going to go bad or not. I’m a glass half full kind of a person, even when things are tough. I always try to look at the best in things.
Q: What is one thing that people don’t know about you?
A: I used to be active in theatre in high school and college. While in college, I played Charlie Brown in the Snoopy Musical. I also played Marley’s ghost in a Christmas Carol during my senior year of high school.
