Welcome to the #DragonFamily: Candace Haugtvedt

Meet MSUM’s new Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership, Dr. Candace Haugtvedt. Although the classes she teaches are online, Dr. Haugtvedt looks forward to connecting with and helping out her students any way she can!

Start date: August 26, 2019

Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: I received my undergraduate degree in pharmacy from North Dakota State University, so I am familiar with Fargo. I grew up in International Falls and wanted to come back to the area.

Q: What surprised you about MSUM?
A: MSUM has a great campus and friendly people. Everyone’s been very helpful since I started. It’s a welcoming environment, which is very nice to find.

Q: What unique experience or skills do you bring to MSUM?
A: I have a significant amount of experience as a practicing pharmacist, as well as a Ph.D. in pharmacy administration and preventive medicine. I bring the public health aspects into all of my courses. I offer multi-level solutions to different problems that are not easily solvable. I also have been involved in several national organizations and held leadership positions in the American Public Health Association.

Q: If you could trade places with anyone for a day who would it be and why?
A: I really admire Eleanor Roosevelt and everything she did. If I could be in her shoes for one day, that would be the person I’d want to be. She had such a zest for life and all she did to help this country was phenomenal.

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
A: I love Norway, and I would take another trip there to see my relatives. I’ve made several trips there, and I really enjoy the scenery, the people, the culture and everything about it.
