Welcome to the #DragonFamily: Brett Lysne

Meet MSUM’s new Assistant Professor in the School of Art, Brett Lysne. Brett is taking his artful experience and bringing it into the classroom to help his students grow as better artists!

Start date: August 26, 2019

Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: It’s a really nice art program. I’m impressed by all the certificates and emphases you can get in the art program. It’s not just a single program; it’s very well-rounded.

Q: What is one thing that surprised you about MSUM?
A: This program is larger and more in-depth than I realized. There are a lot of students in this department who are active and already doing real-world things.

Q: What unique experience or skills do you bring to MSUM?
A: For the last year or so, I’ve been a freelance artist and graphic designer. I have started doing a little bit of commercial graphic design even though my background is in fine art. That has really taught me more real-world application. I think that also makes me a little more relatable to students.

Q: What energizes you at work?
A: I love chatting with the students. I love those moments when I can talk to them about their ideas and aspirations artistically. That’s where we get to know each other better and find out what’s driving them to be an art student. There’s not a day I don’t look forward to going to class.

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
A: I would go back to Southern France. I have lived there twice and loved it. I love all the food, the pastries and the language. It is a great place.

Welcome to the #DragonFamily, Brett. We’re happy you’re here!
