Are you reading the book? If you’re not, you should be!
Common Read is basically a community-wide book club to spark conversation and discussion around a theme. This fall, the MSUM community is reading the New York Times best-seller, The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates. Executive Producer Oprah Winfrey is turning his book into a much-anticipated major motion picture of the same name.
Here’s an overview of the book:
Two kids with the same name were born blocks apart in the same city within a few years of each other. One grew up to be a Rhodes Scholar, army officer, White House Fellow, and business leader. The other is serving a life sentence in prison. Here is the story of two boys and the journey of a generation.
“The chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. The tragedy is that my story could have been his.” – Author Wes Moore
The Common Read also supports MSUM’s strategic anchor of being indispensable to the community by providing learning opportunities for students to engage with the community and to celebrate diversity of ideas, perspectives and people.
