Welcome to the #DragonFamily: Puja Sharma-Husmann
Meet MSUM’s Program Coordinator for Multicultural Affairs, Puja Sharma-Husmann. Her drive and dedication to help students show what it means to have the MSUM core values, grit, heart and humility!
Start date: June 17, 2019
Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: I am a former Dragon! I really enjoyed my time here as a student. I transferred from another school to MSUM. I immediately felt at home. There were people looking out for me, wanting me to succeed. It is because of them I was able to graduate and move onto my master’s. I want to ensure students get the opportunities they need to succeed while receiving an education. This position is very close to my heart.
Q: What is your go-to productivity trick?
A: It would have to be the students. I love working with students and hearing positive impacts. Over the years, people have given me “Thank you” cards. I have two bags full of those cards. When I am feeling unproductive or negative, I take out a few of those cards and read them and it kind of gives me an instant reminder of why I do what I do.
Q: What energizes you at work?
A: Aside from coffee, it’s the students and people I get to work with. My coworkers have been so good. They’ve gone out of their way to show me how things are done and how the processes work. They’ve been open and receiving my ideas as well. Once I get students, it’s really going to be them. Helping them will keep me going.
Q: What is one thing that you are learning about right now and why is it important?
A: I am learning about safe-zone training and bystander training. I have not had those previously so I want to know how that can help my work better and how I can use it to help with my students as well.
Q: What energizes you outside of work?
A: CrossFit. It is rigorous and one of the hardest things I have ever done. It motivates me to reach my goals and if I reach those goals, it’s awesome. If I don’t meet those goals, it’s OK, I can learn something from it. It makes me feel stronger and more focused at work and overall happier. Also, spending time with my husband and cats. I really cherish those times.
We are so happy you are a part of the #DragonFamily, Puja!
