Dr. Anthony Ocaña (Communication Studies, School of Communication and Journalism) presented his co-authored research this past weekend in Prague, Czech Republic, at the Progressive Connexions project Humour: An Inclusive Interdisciplinary Conference. The paper, entitled “I’m So Angry I Made a Sign”: The Use of Humour in Protest Signs, analyzed how protest sign humour used in large US demonstrations between 2016-2018 not only helped catch people’s attention, but also helped enhance feelings of unification or division in target audiences.
