5 Reasons to go to DragonFest!
What makes DragonFest stand out from all the other events that happen on campus? We interviewed Becky Boyle Jones, the Assistant Director of Activities and Greek Life who coordinates DragonFest, to learn why you should stop by! Keep reading to find the top reasons you should go to DragonFest, and learn more about the booths that will be there.
- It can take as little as 10 minutes to go through and get a free promo item
The free promo item? This year, it’s a black baseball cap with the Dragon logo and red accents. How cool is that? Let’s say you only have 10 minutes to spare; in order to get your super awesome hat, you will need to visit one student organization, one business, and one nonprofit. To do that, stop at the check-in tent to get your slip. Then as Becky said, “Hit the big 3, turn in your slip, and get your free hat.” How easy is that?
- You’ll meet so many student organizations that you can get involved in
Maybe you’re new to campus and not feeling connected yet, or perhaps you’ve been here for years and are looking for something fun to do. Getting involved in a student organization can help you feel connected to the campus, meet friends with similar interests, and allow you to give back to MSUM and the surrounding community. There are over 100 student organizations on campus, and plenty of them will have booths set up for DragonFest. Be sure to visit one of them or all of them!
- TONS of free things
There are two f-words that college students like more than just about anything: free and food. We’ll have plenty of both at DragonFest! The most popular last year? The Women’s Center on campus has done “consent fries” (stop by to learn why!) and Lutheran Campus Ministries has done taco in a bag. And they’re free! You’ll have to stop by DragonFest to see what there will be this year. On top of that, there will be endless amounts of free candy, fun prizes, and giveaways.
- Plenty of vendors
Another thing that pairs well with college students is coffee. Looking to feed your coffee addiction? Atomic Coffee will be one of the new vendors at DragonFest! Other businesses and vendors include Girl Scouts, Fargo-Moorhead Red Hawks, Hornbachers, Affinity, US Bank, and Wells Fargo Bank. Check out their booths and see what they have to offer!
- Potential to meet a future employer
If there is one life tip to learn from this event, it’s the importance of connections. Becky summed up this reason nicely when asked about her favorite part of DragonFest, “[It’s] such a good opportunity for students from every major to get connected with student orgs and things in the community where they can potentially find employment or an internship. We have a nice variety of nonprofits and businesses that are here to help students connect with resources in the community.” Those are some pretty cool opportunities! So, networking is yet another great reason to check out DragonFest. Who knows, you might end up meeting future employer or landing a job because of this event.
