From Clay County Public Health

This is a message from Clay County Public Health

Clay County Public Health officials are investigating TB exposure at Minnesota State University Moorhead and are in the process of determining the extent of testing, if any, that may be needed.  Two individuals have been diagnosed with TB.  Not all persons with active TB disease are equally infectious.  Some cases require extensive investigation, while other cases require little or none.

It is important to know there is no current risk of exposure at the university.

Although TB is a serious disease, it is not highly infectious and usually is NOT spread through brief contact.  You cannot get TB from shaking hands, sharing food or from clothes, dishes or touching objects.

While the risk of exposure is relatively small for the majority of the university community, Clay County Public Health is reviewing the situation to determine if any students or staff are at risk. If it is determined that you had close and prolonged exposure to TB, you will be notified by public health and advised to receive screening for TB.

If you have questions or concerns please call Clay County Public Health at 299-5220.
