MSUM to host ‘Night of Champions’ at Dragon Basketball doubleheader tonight
The Minnesota State University Moorhead athletic department will host the Night of Champions on Friday night as part of the Dragon basketball doubleheader vs. Minnesota Crookston at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
Championship banners for Dragon men’s and women’s basketball will be unveiled immediately after the women’s basketball game on Friday. The celebration will highlight the conference championships won by Dragon basketball with a focus on the 2016-17 championships won by MSUM. It was the first time since expanding to 16 teams that a school swept both the men’s and women’s regular season title and the first time it happened since the 2000-2001 season.
“Dragon Athletics has a proud championship tradition,” said Athletic Director Doug Peters. “By my count the Dragons have won 111 conference championships and numerous individual championships. We want to showcase those championships.”
This is the first step in recognizing all the championship teams in the history of Dragon Athletics in Nemzek Fieldhouse. Additional championship banner unveilings will be announced in the future.
