Residence Life hosts Red River Valley Residence Life Conference
On Sunday, October 29, MSUM hosted the annual Red River Valley Residence Life Conference for student staff. This annual conference has been taking place for approximately 30 years and began as the TRI-College RA conference which was originally a partnership between NDSU, Concordia, and MSUM.
Each year one of the three schools has hosted the conference which provides student staff to engage in professional development by presenting and sharing knowledge with their colleagues from other institutions. Approximately three years ago due to interest by other colleges and universities in the area the name of the conference was changed to be more inclusive of the Red River Valley. This year MSUM hosted over 300 student and professional staff representing Housing and Residential Life from eleven colleges and universities including – North Dakota State University, North Dakota State College of Science, Mayville State University, Dakota Wesleyan University, South Dakota State University, University of North Dakota, Bemidji State University, and the University of Minnesota, Crookston.
Attendees were reminded of the importance of their role by keynote speaker Blake Fly from Top Youth speakers. Blake provided enthusiasm and a positive vibe that lasted the entire afternoon. The conference provides RAs the opportunity to learn and engage with one another and discuss the important roles they play in students’ lives.
