Sibley donates international books to Curriculum Materials Center
The Curriculum Materials Center (CMC) has received a generous donation of international books from emerita Carol Sibley. Sibley served for two years on the Outstanding International Books (OIB) award committee for the United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY).
USBBY is a nonprofit organization devoted to building bridges of international understanding through children’s and young adult books; it serves as the U.S. national section of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY).
In 2016, Sibley donated over 90 books to the CMC collection and in 2017 she donated 127 books. The OIB list features those books that represent the best of children’s literature from other countries and that help American children see the world from other points of view. The 2017 OIB award winning books will be on display in the CMC area on the 2nd floor of the MSUM library from October 1 through October 15.
The complete list of the award winning books is available at http://www.usbby.org/list_oibl.html. All of the Outstanding International Award winning titles are available in the CMC.
To further enhance the use of these materials, Sibley conducted a workshop on the OIB winners for librarians and teachers in the Northern Lights Library Network (NLLN) in 2016 at MSUM and in 2017 in Detroit Lakes.
