The Advocate, Doing It Downtown win numerous SPJ awards

The MSUM Advocate brought home more than a dozen Society of Professional Journalist (SPJ) awards recently. The student run newspaper was named a finalist for Best All Around Student Newspaper, while many individuals took home awards.

The awards were presented to Editor Kayleigh Omang at Region 6 SPJ conference in Bloomington, Minn.

The region includes colleges from North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Iowa.

The Society of Professional Journalists also named two first place winners for individual awards and two finalists for the staff of the Doing It Downtown.

Doing It Downtown is a student run blog supervised by Deneen Gilmour that is published on Area Voices.
