Minnesota Severe Weather Awareness Week
Minnesota Severe Weather Awareness Week is April 17-21, 2017. This annual public event is designed to remind the public that it is essential to plan ahead for Minnesota’s severe spring and summer weather. MSUM Public Safety encourages all members of the campus community to be aware of building evacuation routes and severe weather safe areas on campus. These routes and areas are identified on the emergency plans which are posted in conspicuous locations in our campus classrooms, meeting areas, departments and residence halls. View an example of an emergency plan.
We also encourage everyone to sign up for our emergency notification system, Dragon Alert, in order to receive notifications when severe weather approaches campus as well as to be informed of other emergencies affecting the safety of our campus community. Please use the following link to register for MSUM Dragon Alerts: www.mnstate.edu/publicsafety (click on the Dragon Alert Button).
MSUM Public Safety will send the weekly Dragon Alert information today (Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 1:30 p.m.) and again on Thursday, April 20 at 1:45 p.m. when the tornado sirens will be sounded in our community as a part of this statewide severe weather drill. The sirens in our community will also be activated at 6:45 p.m. Thursday evening.
