3 MSUM alumnae named Fargo Public Schools District elementary school principals
Three MSUM alumnae were named elementary school principals in the Fargo Public Schools District for the upcoming school year. Congratulations to Cathy Selberg, Karrie Rage and Leandra Ostrom!
Cathy Selberg has been named to the position of principal for Washington Elementary School. Selberg will assume this position on July 1, and will replace Dana Carlson, who is set to retire in June.
Selberg is an alumna of Minnesota State University Moorhead, and a graduate of Fargo North High School. She has been serving as the assistant principal at Carl Ben Eielson Middle School since 2014. Previous to that, she served as the seventh and eighth grade reading intervention instructor at Carl Ben Eielson. She has been with the Fargo School District since 1989. Selberg began her education career as a K-6 Learning Disabilities teacher from 1989 to 1991, followed by ten years as an elementary level teacher at Clara Barton, Longfellow, and Madison Elementary Schools. In 2001 she became the District’s Language Arts Teacher Specialist, and then returned to the classroom as an elementary level teacher for grades one, four, and five at Longfellow from 2003 to 2008. Selberg has also served as an adjunct instructor at North Dakota State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead for their Education departments.
Selberg holds a Master of Science degree in Education and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Minnesota State University Moorhead. She earned her Administrative Credentials through Minnesota State University Moorhead. Selberg also holds a North Dakota Middle Level Endorsement and her K-12 Reading Credential.
Karrie Rage has been named to the position of principal for Kennedy Elementary School. Rage will assume this position on July 1, and will replace Jerry Hanson, who is set to retire in June.
Rage is an alumna of the University of North Dakota and Minnesota State University Moorhead, and is a North Dakota native. She has been serving as a coordinator of Special Education Services for Fargo Public Schools since 2003. Her portfolio as a coordinator has included serving as the administrator for the Early Childhood Special Education program since 2013. Rage joined the Fargo Public Schools in 1993 as a special education teacher, serving students at South High School from 1993 to 1998 and North High School from 1999 to 2003. She began her teaching career in 1987 as a multicategorical special education teacher at Sisseton High School in Sisseton, S.D.
Rage holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of North Dakota with concentrations in elementary, middle, and special education and a Master of Science degree in Education from Minnesota State University Moorhead. She earned her Administrative and Special Education Director Credentials through Minnesota State University Moorhead.
Leandra Ostrom has been named to the position of principal for Horace Mann-Roosevelt Elementary School. Ostrom will assume this position on July 1, and will replace Kim Colwell, who is set to retire in June.
Ostrom is an alumna of Minnesota State University Moorhead, and a graduate of Fargo North High School. She has been serving as the student performance strategist at Centennial Elementary School since 2015. Previous to that, she served as the administrative intern at Centennial for three years. Ostrom joined the Fargo Public Schools in 2001 as a special education teacher at Washington Elementary School, where she served until 2004. In the years following, she served as a special education teacher at Fargo North High School and Longfellow Elementary School. She joined the staff at Centennial Elementary School in 2007 as a special education resource teacher. Ostrom began her teaching career in Paraparaumu, New Zealand in 1998 and taught combination first and second grade for two and a half years.
Ostrom holds Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and two Bachelor of Science degrees (elementary education and special education-emotional disturbance/learning disabilities) from Minnesota State University Moorhead, along with her administration credential.
