FBI active shooter training tomorrow

All MSUM faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend an active shooter presentation specifically addressing colleges and other education environments. The presentations will include information on what to do in an active shooter situation to increase the probability of survival and potential pre-event indicators of a person preparing to embark on a mass violence event. The topic will also instruct attendees in using “Active Listening Skills” to assist people with preventing an active shooter situation and not just surviving one.

The same presentation will be offered at the following times:

  • Date: Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017
  • Times: 6:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m.
  • Location: MSUM Campus, CMU Room 205

The presenter will be FBI Special Agent Joseph Malhoit, a 19 year veteran of the Agency with an MA in Psychology from St. Mary’s University. He has previously been assigned to white-collar crime, Domestic Terrorism and Violent Crime with an emphasis on child prostitution. For the last two years SA Malhoit has been the Training Coordinator of the FBI Minneapolis Office. During his FBI career, SA Malhoit has been a Crisis Negotiator, the Employee Assistance Coordinator, a Relief Supervisor and the Crimes Against Children Coordinator. SA Malhoit has given numerous active shooter presentations over the past two years in a wide variety of settings, including schools and colleges.

The presentation is approximately 1.25 hrs. and additional time will be available for questions and discussion.
