MSUM Hosting Author Event for One Book, One Community Project
Save the date: MSUM is hosting the culminating author event for this year’s area-wide One Book, One Community project. The book is “The Latehomecomer” by Kao Kalia Yang, who will do a reading and book signing at the CMU Ballroom on Friday, Oct. 14.
A firsthand account of the immigrant experience from the Hmong perspective, this book chronicles the journey of the author’s family from a refugee camp in Thailand to America. This book addresses the universal themes of family and love while sharing the family’s struggle to adapt in a strange culture, while holding onto traditions that are passed down from Yang’s beloved grandmother.
Copies of the book are available for check out in several formats (print and ebook) at each of the participating libraries. “The Latehomecomer” is also available as a downloadable ebook through Ebooks Minnesota, in which readers within Minnesota’s borders can access a collection of ebooks without waiting lists or holds. No username or password is required and the collection is accessible at EbooksMN.org.
Events at area libraries through September and October will feature a community book discussion centered on immigration, film screenings, cultural exhibits and other engaging programs. For a list of related events and resources, visit any participating library starting Aug. 1, or go to www.1book1community.org.
One Book, One Community is a partnership between the Fargo Public Library, Moorhead Public Library, West Fargo Public Library, Concordia College’s Carl B. Ylvisaker Library, Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Livingston Lord Library and North Dakota State University Libraries.
