Dragon Pride Award Ceremony 2016

CMU 101 was packed while celebrating student organizations at the Annual Dragon Pride Award Ceremony on Wednesday, April 20. The night was filled with food, trivia, and prizes. Fourteen awards were given out to students, advisors and student organizations.  The 2016 Annual Dragon Pride Award winners are:

Rookie of the Year

This award is for members that joined a student organization during the past year and have demonstrated strong leadership skills within the student organization they joined.

The winner of the Rookie of the Year Award for 2016 is Jacob Franz. Jacob is passionate about service and brought a new focus and perspective to the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Dragon Pride Student of the Year

This award is for any student organization member who shows their Dragon Pride within their student organization and throughout campus. 

The winner of the Dragon Pride Student of the Year Award for 2016 is Lindsey O’Driscoll.  Lindsey always embodies the Dragon Pride spirit whether she is attending an athletic game or planning a big event on campus.

Student Volunteer of the Year

This award is for any member of a student organization who has been dedicated to volunteering on or off campus.

The winner of the Student Volunteer of the Year Award for 2016 is Noah Butkowski.  Noah can be relied on by his own organization, Kappa Sigma, and the Dragon Entertainment Group to help problem solve and volunteer with a smile and a can do attitude. He has logged numerous volunteer hours this semester through his student organization.

Student Leader of the Year

This award is for any student organization member who has contributed to his/her student organization and the campus community, exemplifies leadership, and represents MSUM well.

The winner of the Student Leader of the Year Award for 2016 is Saad Janjua. Saad is very involved on campus and his organizations have benefited from his outgoing personality and passion to help others.

Student Organization Officer of the Year

This award is given to the student organization officer who best exemplifies the purpose of their respective student organization through leadership, academic achievement, campus involvement, and vision. 

The winner of the Student Organization Officer of the Year for 2016 is Natalie Aamot. Natalie has shown her enthusiasm and passion while managing the KMSC Dragon Radio station with her communication and organization skills.

Student Organization Advisor of the Year

This award is given to recognize a student organization advisor who is regularly involved with their student organization’s activities and is available to support the students throughout the year.

The winner of the Student Organization Advisor of the Year for 2016 is Andrew Johnson.  Andrew has helped KMSC Dragon Radio improve through encouraging and supporting member involvement, community involvement, and campus participation.

Educational Program of the Year

This award is given to a student organization that conducted an outstanding program that educated its individual members, the MSUM campus community and/or the greater Moorhead-Fargo community.

The winner of the Educational Program of the Year Award for 2016 is the “5th Annual Physics Show” put on by the Society of Physics Students. The Physics show allowed Society of Physics Students to share with the public their enthusiasm through presenting physics demonstrations that they spent hours learning and rehearsing.

Community Outreach Program of the Year

This award is given to a student organization that conducted an outstanding philanthropy or community service project, which benefited the local community.

The winner of the Community Outreach Program of the Year Award for 2016 was the “Panhellenic Week of Service” put on by the Panhellenic Council.  Panhellenic Week of Service raised awareness and over $1500 for Circle of Sisterhood.

Collaborative Program of the Year

This award is given to the student organization(s) that collaborated with each other or a campus department to fulfill part of their respective student organization’s purpose.

The winner of the Community Outreach Program of the Year Award for 2016 is the “Mug Crawl”, put on by the Dragon Entertainment Group. The Mug Crawl was an opportunity for students to learn more about 14 different on campus departments and student organizations in a fun and engaging way by vising each officer.

 

Diversity Awareness Program of the Year

This award is given to a student organization that put together a program that provided greater understanding in terms of diversity and/or cultural awareness. 

The winner of the Diversity Awareness Program of the Year Award for 2016 is the “Not Your Pocahottie Panel” put on by the Dragon Entertainment Group. The Not Your Pocahottie Panel allowed American Indian Student Association Members to voice their perspectives on issues such as misconceptions, mascots, and how society views Native Americans.

 

New Student Organization of the Year

This award is for a student organization that has been established within the past year. The student organization should be involved on campus and represent MSUM in a positive manner. 

The winner of the New Student Organization of the Year Award for 2016 is Athletes in Action. Athletes in Action creates a sense of community between students from different sports as they learn how to incorporate faith into their sports.

Dragon Pride Student Organization of the Year

This award is for a student organization that exemplifies Dragon Pride within their student organization and throughout the campus community.

The winner of the Dragon Pride Student Organization of the Year Award for 2016 is the Women’s Club Rugby Team.  Wherever they go the Women’s Club Rugby Team represent MSUM with their hard work, grit, humility, and heart.

Use of Media Student Organization of the Year

This new award is for a student organization that has an exceptional presence on campus through using the outlets of social media and other advertising platforms in a creative and engaging way.

The winner of the Use of Media Student Organization of the Year Award for 2016 is The Advocate.  The Advocate excels in reaching students on many different levels of media and has a strong voice that represents MSUM.

Student Organization of the Year

This award is for a student organization that goes above and beyond to be active, connected and involved at MSUM.

The winner of the Student Organization of the Year Award for 2016 is the Delta Zeta Sorority.  Delta Zeta Sorority represents MSUM Dragon Pride through having members who are involved in all aspects of campus.  They volunteer their time and donate solely to improve the campus community as well as the surrounding community.
