What is Your Dragon Story?
The University is seeking a graduate interested in presenting their Dragon Story at the Friday, May 13 Commencement ceremonies. Are you the one that will inspire your fellow graduates, your families/friends, and faculty and staff with your MSUM experience?
To apply, you must:
- Be a currently enrolled MSUM student that has met the requirements for May 2016 graduation.
- Have submitted your intent to participate in the May 2016 commencement ceremony for your college.
- Complete and submit your application (with the required elements) via email to Registrar Heather Soleim (heather.soleim@mnstate.edu) by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2016.
- Include three items with your application:
- A statement from an MSUM faculty member confirming your public-speaking abilities.
- A typed detailed outline of your 4-6 minute proposed speech (including topic, discussion points and conclusion) addressing two questions:
- How did you demonstrate grit, humility and heart while an MSUM student?
- How do you plan to use the skills and knowledge you acquired as an MSUM student to transform the lives of others?
- A statement indicating why you want to be your commencement ceremony speaker.
One student speaker will be selected to represent the colleges participating in the 10:00 AM ceremony (from the College of Arts, Media & Communication, the College of Business & Innovation, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, or Graduate Studies.) One student speaker will be selected to represent the colleges participating in the 2:00 PM ceremony (from the College of Education & Human Services, the College of Science, Health & the Environment, or Graduate Studies.)
The selected speakers will be notified by April 22nd and required to present their speech during a practice session prior to the commencement ceremonies. The speakers will be invited to participate in the commencement day luncheon (details to follow).
