Tri-College History Lecture ‘Playing Games in Class: How Reacting to the Past Changes the Way We Learn’

Wednesday, April 27 | 7 p.m. | Center for Business 10927

Dr. Sean Taylor will be presenting at the Tri-College History Lecture, at 7 p.m. on April 27 at the MSUM Center for Business room 109.

As part of his sabbatical teaching at the University at Agder in Kristiansand, Norway, Dr. Sean Taylor introduced a radical new game-based pedagogy called Reacting to the Past. Dr. Taylor hoped that Norwegian students would find it as engaging as American students did. Since faculty at Minnesota State University Moorhead had used the Reacting to the Past pedagogy with excellent results, Taylor also hoped his Norwegian colleagues would have the same success.

This talk will highlight Professor Taylor’s research into Reacting-based student learning for critical thinking and language development both in the United States and Norway. As part of the talk, MSUM students Rachelle Ihme, Aaron Beck, and Emma Ricke will present their experiences in the classroom with Reacting to the Past.

Lecture is free and open to the public. For more information or questions please contact the History, Languages, Critical Race and Women’s Studies Department at 218-477-2812.
