Director of Public Safety Candidates Open Forum Announcement

The university community is invited to attend open forums for three finalists for the Director of Public Safety position. Open forums will be held at the following times:

Matthew Loeslie, Monday, February 8, 1:30-2:30pm, CMU 203

Matthew Loeslie earned his Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice Leadership from Concordia University, St. Paul. Loeslie is currently the Public Safety Training Manager at MERIT Center in Marshall, MN. He is also the owner and founder of LOCATE Training LLC. He has served as exam and inspection specialist for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Public Safety Training Director and adjunct faculty at Minnesota West Community and Technical College as well as Police Patrol Officer for Minnesota Police Department, Police Patrol Officer and Crime Free Multi-Housing Coordinator for the Marshall Police Department, and Security Patrol Officer and Field Training Officer for Securitas Security in Marshall, MN. Loeslie has received job training and professional education in emergency management, leadership, and law enforcement. Loeslie also has experience providing training in several safety and security areas.

James Schumann, Tuesday, February 9, 1:30-2:30pm, CMU 203

James Schumann earned his Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from St. Cloud State University. Schumann has served as the Director of Safety and Security and Environmental Health and Safety at Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. Schumann has also served at the Executive Director of Facilities and the Director of Security at the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, MN. In addition, Schumann served as the Assistant Director of Life Safety Services at the St. Johns University in Collegeville, MN; the Director of Security and Safety at Normandale Community College; the Director of Security and Safety at Concordia College, St. Paul; adjunct professor in Criminal Justice at St. Cloud State University; teaching assistant in Criminal Justice at St. Cloud State University as well as additional security and safety positions within public and private industry. Schumann has conducted research projects, served on task forces and as consultant, and prepared and published security and safety audits and reports. Furthermore, Schumann has served in a number of professional organizations in Minnesota and within the region.

Michael Detloff, Wednesday, February 10, 1:30-2:30pm, CMU 203

Michael Detloff earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Sociology and Law Enforcement from Minnesota State University Moorhead. Detloff is currently serving as Patrol Lieutenant for the Moorhead Police Department. Detloff has also served as Patrol Sergeant, Investigator, K-9 Handler, and Patrol Officer with the Moorhead Police Department. In addition, Detloff has served as a Crisis Negotiator with the Red River Valley SWAT team. Detloff has received education in maintenance of Minnesota POST license for 20 years. Detloff has served on a number of special assignments and has presented on topics of internet safety, cyber bullying, sexting, K-9, and identity theft/phishing. In addition, Detloff has volunteered in numerous service opportunities in his community.
