Women’s Club Rugby Team WINS National Championship!

MSUM’s women’s club rugby team traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina this past weekend to play in the rugby national championship series.  After finishing their regular season undefeated, winning both the Minnesota Final Four, and the Regional Tourney in Wayne, NE, the team advanced to nationals as the #1 seed.

In the first round MSUM played U-mass Dartmouth. Jumping out to a 15-0 lead right away and kept on trucking, winning the game 54-0.
For the championship on Sunday it was MSUM vs. Colgate college from New York. Colgate took the first score, but MSUM over-powered them on defense and carried the ball well. The team effort brought home the national championship by a score of 44-24.
Moorhead had 5 girls make the all tournament team: Mariah Adams, Sawyer Salter, Breanna Bucklin, Brandi Bucklin, and Madison Geiser.
Sawyer Salter was the over All-Tournament MVP and Michelle Ziebarth won MSUM’s heart and soul award. Cassie Boll, Lexi Byler Zoey Price, Megan VanderMeulen, Tayler Goggleye, Mackenzie Willits, Kiah Vanasse, Carley Schnack, Sydney Zenzen, Kelsey Spoden, Shannon Schlee, Emily Trotterchaude, Tara Puckett, Sara Friedt, Haley Foster and Sierra Obioha make up the complete line up for MSUMs national championship team.
