Simulated power failure test to be held Dec. 29 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
As part of MSUM’s commitment to safety and security, a simulated power failure test will be performed on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. During this time, only emergency lighting will be available in campus buildings, so you should plan to do any work tasks that you can under these circumstances or use the time to discuss and plan within your department as to how you would respond in a real emergency. If testing is completed ahead of schedule, power will be restored earlier. In the event of a major failure, the testing will be aborted and power restored.
Please power down all workstations at the end of day on Monday, December 28 or no later than 8:25 a.m. on Tuesday, December 29. An e2Campus alert will be sent at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday as a reminder of the test. Every attempt has been made for specialized equipment to either be shut down before or alternatively powered during this test.
1. Goals of testing:
1.1. Update loading of generator (last test was March 2010)
1.2. Verify operation of all switch gear
1.3. Verify operation of Nelson fire pumps
1.4. Verify operation of Nelson elevator
1.5. Verify card access system functionality during power failure (approximately 500 on campus)
1.6. Verify security camera system functionality during power failure
2. Services that will be available during the simulated power failure:
2.1. Phone system will remain active
2.2. Network, WiFI, full generator power & lighting will only be available in the following campus facilities:
2.1.1. Public Safety Building
