Learn more about the Minnesota GI Bill
Current/Former Military Students, Dependents and Spouses of those who have served,
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you about the Minnesota GI Bill. This program works with financial aid to provide up to $1,000 per term ($3,000 maximum per fiscal year) for full-time students, and up to $500 per term for part-time.
To take advantage of this program you must be attending a MN post-secondary institution as either an undergraduate or graduate student, be a Minnesota resident under financial aid guidelines, and have applied for FAFSA. In addition, the following eligibility criteria apply:
1.) Veteran who has served honorably for over 180 days at ANY time, or was medially discharged due to a service connection
2.) National Guard/Reservist who has served for at least 5 years and ANY PART of that service occurred after September 11, 2001
3.) Spouse and/or Dependent of a Veteran who has a 100% total and permanent service-connection through the VA, or has passed away while on active duty or due to their service connection. Spouses and Dependents must also be eligible for Chapter 35 GI Bill or the Fry Scholarship
The online application can be found at www.ohe.state.mn.us/military, find the link for “Minnesota GI Bill” then the “Apply Online Now” link. The application takes 5-7 minutes to complete. Once complete, I will verify eligibility status, and the Financial Aid Department at your institution will process further to award funding if applicable.
If you may have any questions regarding this program, or any other military service related programs that might be available to you, please do not hesitate to contact me at the information below or aaron.jensen@state.mn.us and I will be more than happy to assist.
Thank You,
