School of Visual Arts students participated in archeological project in Tuscany

Kenny (Arthur) Bowling and Jordan Falkum, students from the School of Visual Arts, participated in a five week program at The Villa del Vergigno Archaeological Project in Montelupo Fiorentino, a small Tuscan town on the Arno River, just ten miles west of Florence. The site includes the remains of an extensive Roman villa (1st C BCE – 4th C CE) and is adjacent to early-Medieval sites. In addition to learning basic archaeological excavation techniques, the students were also introduced to GIS digital mapping and protocols of artifact conservation. Bowling and Falkum contributed to the project as skilled draftsmen creating detailed renderings of the artifacts discovered and catalogued at the site.
