Joerger to Headline MSUM Coaches Clinic Sponsored by Sanford Health

JOERGERMSU Moorhead men’s basketball will hold a Coaches Clinic on Saturday, Sept. 12. The clinic, which is being sponsored by Sanford Health, will be headlined by Dave Joerger, the head coach of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies who also is a 1997 graduate of MSUM.

The camp is open to coaches at any level.

The clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 12 at Nemzek Hall on the MSUM campus in Moorhead, Minn.  Cost is $100 for early registration and walk-up registrations (the day of the event) will be $125. Lunch will be provided from noon to 1 p.m.. Those interested in attending the clinic can sign up online above.

Additional guest speakers for the clinic, will be announced in the weeks ahead.

“This is just another opportunity for Minnesota State University Moorhead to continue our momentum in Dragon Athletics,” MSUM head men’s basketball coach Chad Walthall said. “Dave is a good friend and alum that has always expressed how proud he is to be a a part of the Dragon family.  It is an opportunity for coaches in the region to listen and learn from one of the best basketball minds in the country.”

Joerger will be entering his third season as the Memphis head coach. In two seasons he has compiled a 105-59 record (.640) and led the Grizzlies to back-to-back playoff appearances, including a trip to the Western Conference semifinals this past season.

A native of Staples, Minn., Joerger was a solid point guard during his time at MSU, compiling an impressive 227 assists in 54 games during his two seasons as a Dragon. In 1995-96, Joerger played in 27 games, shooting 47.8 percent from the three-point line, best on the team, and led the team with a 95.5 free-throw percentage (42-of-44). He set the MSUM single-game assist record in 1996 with 15 against Winona State. In 1996-97, as a senior, Joerger led the team in free-throw percentage at 86.6 percent (58-of-67) and steals (53).

“I’m so excited to be coming home and reconnecting with old friends and seeing the growth of MSUM athletics,” Joerger said.
