Three individuals from MSUM presented at international workshop on outdoor advertising
Three members of the MSUM community gave presentations at The Art and Science of Outdoor Advertising in the Age of Digital Media, an international workshop on outdoor advertising held in Fargo April 15. The event was organized by Prof. Charles Okigbo, NDSU.
Presenters were:
Tracy Gompf, program coordinator in the paralegal program in the Dept. of Economics, Law and Politics (College of Humanities and Social Sciences), presented on law and ethics pertaining to practice of outdoor advertising in the U.S. today – from local to state levels.
“This was an exciting and engaging group to speak to,” Gompf said. “They had a deep knowledge of the subject matter, which made the presentation rewarding. I was honored to be involved in this opportunity for collaboration among the tri-colleges.”
Ruth Lumb, professor of marketing in the Paseka School of Business, presented a paper titled “An examination of what the future holds for marketing, advertising, and outdoor advertising in the context of globalization.”
“The workshop provided a wealth of information about the everyday challenges and opportunities of outdoor advertising within and from their cultural perspective in today’s globally interdependent world,” Lumb said. “As an academician, I appreciate gaining the perspective of practitioners and was impressed by the lively discussions of the topics.”
David Wahlberg, director of marketing and communications, presented on the challenges of organization leadership and strategics for achieving good relations with journalists, PR practitioners, advertising regulators, and government officials.
A large group of Nigerian advertising professionals, including Charles Chijide, president of the Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria, visited with President Blackhurst to talk about future engagement opportunities.
