Psychology Department hosted the annual Red River Undergraduate Psychology Conference; MSUM alumnus was keynote speaker

The Psychology Department hosted the annual Red River Undergraduate Psychology Conference last Friday. Twenty seven poster presentations, and four papers were presented by students from MSUM, NDSU, Concordia, UND, and the University of Jamestown. Ten of these presentations involved 14 students from our Department. Novel features at the conference this year included a Graduate Student Panel, an Internship Fair, and a Graduate School/Career Preparation session. The keynote speaker was Dr. Susan Everson-Rose, who delivered two addresses: “Race, Place & Social Determinants: Understanding Health Disparities in Heart Disease & Stroke” on Thursday evening, and “Emotion, Stress and Disease: A Biopsychosocial Perspective” on Friday. Our Psi Chi is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Dr. Everson-Rose, as MSUM Alumna and the first chapter president of Psi Chi helped us commemorate this event. She also received the Departmental Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Everson-Rose is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Associate Director of the Program in Health Disparities Research, and Director of the Research Core of the Center of Health Equity at the University of Minnesota.
