TU Dance brings playful, soulful choreography to MSUM stage this weekend
Company comes to Moorhead for performance and three-day residency
Founded in 2004 by former Alvin Ailey dancers Toni Pierce-Sands and Uri Sands, TU Dance performs in MSUM’s Hansen Theatre on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7:30 p.m.
The 12-member Twin Cities dance company performs work that draws together modern dance, classical ballet, African-based and urban vernacular movements. Their performance here will feature original work by Uri Sands, as well as renowned choreographers such as Dwight Rhoden, Ron Brown, Katrin Hall, Gregory Dolbashian and Camille Brown. TU Dance performs regularly in the Twin Cities, and also toured this year to Boston, Miami, New York and several Minnesota cities. While in Moorhead, TU Dance will work with MSUM theatre students who study dance, and will also provide two classes to community dance studio students in the community.
The company has received accolades such as the Minneapolis Star Tribune’s Artist of the Year, the Inaugural Princess Grace Award in Choreography, DANCE Magazine’s “25 to Watch,” and the Joyce Award.
For tickets to the performance, go to www.mnstate.edu/perform, or call the MSUM Box Office Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at (218) 477-2271, or buy at the door the night of the performance.
