Former MSUM employee, Julian N. Larson, passed away

Julian, son of Ole and Caroline (Blegen) Larson, was born July 2, 1921, on his family farm in Humboldt Township and died December 24, 2014, at his home in Moorhead, MN, surrounded by family. He was under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

He attended District 47 Country School and graduated from Barnesville (MN) High. A veteran of WWII, he served in the Army’s 583rd Signal Air Warning Battalion.

Julian married Florence Haugtvedt on June 12, 1954, at Solem Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN. They made their home in Moorhead and attended Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

He retired from MSUM in 1993 after 21 years of employment as a custodian.

Julian was a devoted family man, faithful husband, loving father and grandfather. He was a tender-hearted man who enjoyed life, family, friends and co-workers. He had a great sense of humor and a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. An avid bowler, horseshoe pitcher, fisherman, and hunter, he loved music and played many instruments by ear. A faithful servant of God, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; two daughters, Tammy Larson, Moorhead, and Terry (Jay) Titus, Fargo, ND; two grandchildren, Dain and Marissa Titus, both Fargo; one sister-in-law, DeLores Larson, Moorhead; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Art, Pete, Syver, and Otto; sisters, Clara Olson and Anna Thorvaldson; and three who died in infancy, Ida, Thelma and Lars.

Please send memorials to Hospice of the Red River Valley, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd or a charity of donor’s choice.
