Asteroid named for MSUM Alumnus Sherry Fieber-Beyer

The asteroid 14825 Fieber-Beyer was named for Dr. Sherry Fieber-Beyer by the International Astronomical Union in mid-July. Dr. Fieber-Beyer, who graduated from MSUM with a B.A. in Physics with Emphasis in Astronomy, is currently a postdoctoral research at the University of North Dakota, where she obtained her Masters and Ph.D.

While at MSUM she did research on main belt asteroids with Dr. Walter Worman. Her interested in these objects has continued throughout her professional career, leading to the honor of having an asteroid named after her. She plans to observe her namesake in 2017.
