MSUM Library set to reopen after extensive renovation
After an extensive two-year renovation, the Livingston Lord Library is set to completely reopen today. This will be a “soft opening;” a grand opening and celebration is being planned for Fall 2014. The next few weeks will see the moving of offices, furniture, and collections of materials – things will continue to be a little unsettled for the remainder of the semester.
The renovation project involved a top-to-bottom remodel with new flooring, lighting, furniture, paint, and heating and ventilation throughout the building. The wireless access was upgraded to ensure better connectivity and more plug-in network access was added.
A standout feature in the library is the curved staircase from first to second floors. Students will be served by new circulation desks, a new IT help desk area, and a new reference desk featuring spiffy lighting. High-tech group study rooms are prominent on both first and second floors and the 24-hour computer lab will re-open on the first floor of the library. The library will now have two entrances with the addition of a new north entrance.
The opening of the library porch will be delayed but, when it does open, will be a comfortable lounge area complete with a fireplace and vending machines.
