Health and Wellness Advisory Committee approves belay qualification course

Starting fall 2014, the Wellness Center will be offering belay qualification courses for students, faculty, staff and community members. The belay course will teach the candidates how to safely belay other climbers, and will include the basics, such as how to set up a belay device, learning the proper climbing knots, commands, catching falls and safely lowering a climber. Upon successful completion of the belay qualification course and test, the candidate will then be qualified to belay during normal Wellness Center rock wall hours. Currently the wellness center offers qualification only to Wellness Center employees. The implementation of this course means that all student will have access to learn and practice the full skill set required for indoor and outdoor climbing.
