The Architects are Coming, the Architects are Coming!
Yes, it’s true–we are having our first visit from the Cuningham Group’s architects on February 3 and 4. Have we mentioned that we’re so so so excited to begin the pre-design process? Because we are!
The pre-design is actually an extremely important step in the student union’s renovation. During the visit next week, the architects will talk with many students to understand what their ideas are for the future of the CMU. We will be re-envisioning and re-imagining many areas of the student union–and we really couldn’t be more excited!
In the renovated student union, there will be a new, bigger, more open area for student organizations to gather, to have offices, to plan, work, imagine and grow. To decide what this space should look and feel like, what technology it needs, and how to layout the space, we want to hear from as many student organizations as possible! If you’re in a student organization, please join us on Tuesday, February 4 from 8 to 9:45 am in CMU 101 for an idea session. Ok, we get it–8:00 am is early (like, really early!) for college students. Before you write this opportunity off, though, we’ll have coffee and donuts for you! So please, just this once would you make the commitment to get up a little early so you can help shape the future of your student union? Thanks!
We are also putting together a group of 20-25 students to help be the Design Planning Committee. These students will spend a few hours with the architects envisioning what the renovated student union will be like. The student union is here for students, so we want student voices to be heard loud and clear during the design process. If you’re interested in being part of this committee stop by the Info Desk and ask for Annie or Layne.
We’re just so excited that the renovation we’ve been planning and saving for is finally starting to move forward! We hope you’re excited too!
