Takács regarded as one of the world’s greatest ensembles
Performance in FM a coup for MSUM’s Performing Arts Series
Praised for the drama, warmth and wit they bring to their performances, the members of the GRAMMY-award-winning Takács String Quartet perform on the Gaede Stage in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts on the MSUM campus Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m.
When former Performing Arts Series Artistic Director Ben Sung first enquired with the group’s agent regarding the possibility of a visit here, he didn’t hold out much hope, says Rebecca Sundet-Schoenwald, managing director. The Takács tours the greatest halls in the world, and commands a fee that most often can’t be met by venues in smaller communities. Sung was thrilled to find a hole in their schedule and negotiated a fee the Series could just manage, she notes.
“Music lovers owe Ben a big thank you, because this will be one of those performances that stays in your memory forever,” says Sundet-Schoenwald. For the MSUM performance, the quartet will play music by Janáček, Britten and Ravel.
The group’s members are also dedicated teachers, and will work with three student string quartets for an hour earlier in the day. The masterclass instruction, free and open to the public, takes place at 11:30 a.m. on the Gaede Stage.
The Takács Quartet is based in Boulder at the University of Colorado. The group performs ninety concerts a year worldwide, and has won numerous awards for its performances and recordings.
