Upcoming instructional technology workshops
Facilitator: Jane Melander
When: Tues, Oct 11th from 1-4PM
Where: Library 222
Workshops:
Creating Electronic Portfolios – 1:00 pm
Lose the paper and heavy binders. Learn how you and your students can use an e-portfolio as an electronic showcase of your skills, abilities, experiences, goals, personal achievements, and more. Unlike a paper portfolio, an e-portfolio can “come alive” with all forms of content. It can include documents, images, links to related sites and videos, examples of your efforts and activities, proof of meeting academic standards, and greater detail about your accomplishments. In this session, you will learn how to set up a free account on eFolio Minnesota, discuss how to incorporate an e-portfolio in your courses, and how to use it for your professional use.
Creating Web-based Quizzes and Exams – 2:00 pm
Would you like to put your exams online but don’t know how to get started? Do you wonder what makes for a good question? Are you unsure how to use the test bank offered by the textbook publisher? In this session, learn what resources are available for creating effective questions, how to obtain a test bank from a textbook publisher, format an exam in Microsoft Word, and use Respondus to organize and upload your quiz to your course. Whether you are a veteran of online testing or just getting started, you will learn strategies that will save you time when creating your course assessments.
Using Clickers in your Course – 3:00 pm
Would you like to interact electronically with your students during a face-to-face class without the use of computers? In this session, learn how to set up and use the Personal Response Systems (PRS) – also known as “clickers”. Pose questions during class and have your students provide immediate feedback. Generate a report of student responses for your reference. Use the clickers to monitor student understanding, aid in planning future class sessions, focus on what students know or don’t know, check attendance, and keep students’ attention.
