Alan Davis reading Sept. 8
MSUM English Professor Alan Davis reads from his newest collection of fiction, So Bravely Vegetative, at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8 in Room 227 of MSUM’s Comstock Memorial Union. This is the first writer’s event of the Tom McGrath Visiting Writers Series.
The 152-page book introduces readers to scenes from Davis’ native Louisiana, as well as characters like a Slovenian cop overwhelmed with Robert Mapplethorpe and a chance meeting with Paul Simon. The book was published by Hollywood Books International in early January and already won the Prize American for Fiction.
Davis, who is also the senior editor at the school’s literary publishing house, New Rivers Press, previously published Alone With the Owl and Rumors From the Lost World.
“Alan Davis writes with a poet’s sense of language, lyricism, and imagination. His prose is exquisitely crafted and always fresh. The world he brings to life is as varied and unpredictable as life itself—sometimes magical, sometimes mysterious, sometimes chilling, sometimes heartbreakingly innocent. The range in these stories is nothing short of amazing.” – Clint McCown
