Welcome from the new Provost
Colleagues,
In just a few short days, the University will be infused with energy and excitement as our new students arrive on campus. We are busily preparing for their arrival and the week of activities that will orient them to campus. We are also looking forward to meeting our new faculty colleagues and welcoming returning faculty back to campus. I share our students’ sense of excitement as I begin my new role as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and I look forward to meeting and working with each of you in the coming year.
I am writing today to remind faculty that the first official duty day of the 2011-2012 academic year is Tuesday, August 16th, which is also the first day of Kick-off Week activities. The complete schedule of activities for Kick-off Week is posted on the Academic Affairs website.
Faculty with continuing appointments may have noticed a start date of August 15th on their 2011-2012 appointment letters. This date was necessary for payroll processing purposes and does not change the approved faculty duty day calendar.
I look forward to the beginning of the academic year and the opportunity to meet you. Please accept my invitation to the “Pastries with the Provost” event scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 16th. I hope you will be able to join me.
