Community school supply drive ends Aug. 5

MSU Moorhead has joined with other Fargo-Moorhead organizations to help support the 13th Annual Community School Supply Drive & Distribution, sponsored by the United Way of Cass-Clay.

The MSUM school supply drive will run from Monday, July 18 through Friday, August 5 at 4:00 p.m., with distribution to children beginning on Saturday, August 13th.

In 2010, 86% of all the students who received backpacks and school supplies, self-reported that they were on free/reduced lunches. This was a a 3% increase from the 2009 data. 44% of families who receive backpacks and school suppplies had an income of $0 – $14,999.

NOTE: Last year, over 340 community volunteers packed over 4,6000 backpacks in 2.4 weeks and students from 64 different schools received backpackts/supplies through this drive, with  4 of the top schools located in Moorhead.

This year, the UWCC’s goal is to equip more than 4,500 students in need with a complete set of supplies, so they are ready to learn! With more than 6,872 children in Cass and Clay Counties who receive free and reduced school lunches there is still a tremendous need!

PLEASE help solve this critical need in our community by dropping off school supplies on or before Friday, August 5th, in the red barrels located outside the Human Resources office – OWENS 214.
