Volunteers are needed to assist with palletizing and storing Moorhead’s 1,000,000 pre-event sandbags
The City of Moorhead sandbag operation plan consists of three phases:
1. Sandbag Production
2. Sandbag Palletizing and Storage
3. Sandbag Placement
Volunteers will assist with stacking sandbags on pallets for delivery in March to flood-affected properties. Beginning on Tuesday, March 1st, volunteers are asked to report directly to Moorhead’s Sandbag Operations Center at 2419 12th Avenue South. Hours of operation will be 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Parking is available in the parking lot located on the northwest side of the Sandbag Operations Center or on 23rd Street South. Signs will direct traffic to the parking area. Volunteers are asked to enter the Sandbag Operations Center through the northwest door.
All volunteers will need to register by presenting a photo ID and completing a Flood Volunteer Waiver Form. All persons under the age of 18 will need parental consent and a parent or guardian’s signature on the waiver. This waiver can be found on the City’s Flood Information Website: www . cityofmoorhead . com / flood /.
When Red River levels reach critical flood stages, the third phase of the City’s sandbag operation plan will be activated and volunteers will be needed to construct sandbag dikes at flood-prone homes throughout the City. All sandbags created in Moorhead will be used to protect private property.
