History of Jazz meets Tuesday evenings
Jazz has been referred to as the only musical art form born in America. From its roots to the music of the present day, every type of jazz created will be discussed, analyzed and listened to in class. In class performances and guest lecturers will illuminate topics relevant to specific instruments and genres. The instructor, Dr. Allen Carter, has been a working jazz player and writer for many years, having become acquainted with several of the art forms major performers.
His recent CD “Gifts” was just voted one of the top 10 big band CDs of 2010 by All About Jazz. Join us and develop your ear for America’s music with an active practitioner of the art form.
The class, MUS 215 – HISTORY OF JAZZ (3 cr; Course ID: 002593), meets Tuesdays beginning Jan. 11 from 7 to 10 p.m. in CA 146.
