MSUM Hosts Day of Percussion Nov. 6
The MSUM Percussion Studio, directed by Dr. Kenyon Williams, is pleased to host our third bi-annual Day of Percussion Saturday, Nov. 6 in the Center for the Arts beginning at 1 p.m. The day will climax with two unique concerts: the MSUM Indonesian Gamelan will join forces with Sumunar Gamelan (from Minneapolis) for a joint performance at 4 p.m., followed by the largest gathering EVER of steel drum musicians in our region at 7:30 p.m. in a “Steel band Extravaganza!”
Clinics by internationally renowned guest artists Joko Sutrisno (gamelan), Chris Hanning (drumset), and Darren Dyke (steel drum) will take place from 1-4 p.m. in the Center for the Arts, followed by the performances. The evening concert is especially noteworthy, as steel bands from high schools and universities across Minnesota and North Dakota will join MSUM’s “Fuego Tropical” to present a truly exciting spectacle of sound on the stage of Hansen Auditorium! Admission is FREE for MSUM students, faculty, and staff with ID, or $5 for adults, $3 for 21-and-under (all day admission). Come join us for an exciting and unique Day of Percussion: “Heavy Metal Edition: Steel bands and Gamelans!”
