Volunteers welcomed for Expanding Your Horizons Conference
Volunteers welcomed for Expanding Your Horizons Conference
We would like to invite you to participate as a workshop leader in the 32nd
Annual Expanding Your Horizons Conference for 7th-9th grade girls to be held on
Saturday, April 9, 2011.
Presenters for the workshops are usually women from area businesses and
professions and from the three area colleges in the fields of science, math and
engineering. Presenters donate their time in order to provide the workshop
participants with an interactive, hands-on look at careers. Even if your career
doesn’t directly involve math and science, you probably needed those courses
to pursue your career path, and many past workshop leaders have been from
outside these fields.
Think about what you do on your job or in your classroom. Is there some
activity that you could modify for a hands-on activity that could be done by a
group of very enthusiastic 7th-9th grade girls? We need people like you to lead
hands-on workshops for these young girls. We expect over 600 young girls to
apply for this conference; in some years we have had to turn away some of those
who applied because we did not have enough workshops available. This is a great
mentoring program for these girls. We would also like to encourage you to
enlist students from your classroom to assist with workshops as this has been a
great opportunity for our MSUM students!
If you have previously volunteered, you should be receiving information shortly.
