Kyle Asche Trio brings high-level jazz to community

The Chicago-based Kyle Asche Organ Trio comes to the Fargo-Moorhead community Thursday, Sept. 9, to teach at MSUM and perform in a popular jazz club in downtown Fargo.

The Kyle Ashe Trio features guitarist Kyle Asche, organist Melvin Rhyne and drummer George Fludas. The Trio continuously performs at many famous venues in Chicago, including the Green Mill, Hothouse, Andy’s Jazz Club, Pops for Champagne, and Pete Miller’s.

Asche was a semifinalist in the prestigious 2005 Thelonius Monk International Guitar Competition, the same year his debut album as a leader was released. That album — The Hook Up (Orgin/OA2) — was very well-received throughout the United States.  Asche’s second CD as a leader, Blues For Mel (Tippin’) placed him in the company of Rhyne, a legendary elder jazz statesman of the organ, and Fludas, a Chicago-based drummer who performs all over the world.

The Trio performs at 8 p.m. at Studio 222 on north Broadway in Fargo, and presents two masterclasses earlier that day. The masterclasses take place at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in Fox Recital Hall in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts on the MSUM campus. The masterclasses are free and open to all students and the public; the performance at Studio 222 is $10, but MSUM students get in free with ID.
