Library celebrates National Library Week April 11-17
Livingston Lord Library will celebrate National Library week with a lecture event featuring Greg Breining, Wednesday, April 14 at 4:30 p.m. in Science Lab 118. Breining will talk about his book, A Hard-Water World: Ice Fishing and Why We Do It. Refreshments will be served with a book signing to follow. Breining’s books will be available for purchase at the event.
Nominated for a 2009 Minnesota Book Award, A Hard-Water World is a celebration of ice fishing, a unique sport and cultural event in the life of the north. Breining’s essays cover the winter life on the ice in all its joy, hardship, zaniness, and self-parody. Die-hard ice fishermen—and their concerned friends and relatives—will all recognize these images and recollections of winter’s most important tradition.
Breining writes frequently about the outdoors for national magazines and newspapers, and is the author of numerous books. He has been an enthusiastic angler since age 10, and has even ice-fished the Volga River in Russia. Breining’s book, Super Volcano, explores the active volcano beneath Yellowstone, while many of his other books describe canoeing, exploring, and fishing in Minnesota.
