MSUM Music Industry Major wins Prestigious Internship
Moorhead, Minn…Christina Jordan, a Minnesota State University Moorhead senior music industry major and percussionist, received offers for not one, but two of the most highly competitive internships in the world of percussion.
After interviewing for both Tycoon Percussion in Los Angeles and the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) in Indianapolis, Jordan was offered a paid internship at both locations. Forced to choose between the two, the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native accepted the six-month paid position from PAS, the largest professional body of percussionists in the world with over 8,000 members in 60 chapters around the globe.
“I think my strong and diverse background in percussion, including teaching and drum corps experience, helped set me apart for this competitive internship,” Jordan said. At MSUM, Jordan has been involved in Percussion Ensemble, Fuego Tropical steel band and salsa ensemble, Wind Ensemble and the vocal jazz group Snowfire. She was also a pit instructor for two years at Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School.
As an intern, she’ll be working at the newly relocated PAS headquarters in Indianapolis helping to conduct the daily business of the Society, planning for the annual fall international convention which attracts over 6,000 participants, and working at the newly opened “Rhythm!” Percussive Arts Museum, which houses both interactive and unique historical displays from around the world.
